Meet Dr. Jeffrey Loeb, MD PhD

Dr. Loeb’s clinical specialty is on the evaluation and treatment of patients with epilepsy. He is an expert in the measurement and assessment of epileptic electrical activity in the brain using EEG, or electroence-phalography and the medical and surgical management of patients with hard to control seizures. Loeb has linked his clinical and research interests through pioneering a unique systems biology approach that analyzes gene and protein expression in human brain to identify new ways to diagnose and treat disease. Loeb is also a leader in the field of growth factor signaling in motor neurons and has developed an innovative, patented drug-targeting technology that could significantly improve the treatment of brain disorders and cancer. Currently, he is the founding director of the University of Illinois NeuroRespository: A combined data and tissue repository with an underlying goal of finding new biomarkers and targets for brain disorders.

As Chief Clinical Strategist for SWF, Dr. Loeb not only brings his wealth of knowledge, but a desire and passion to work together in collaboration with the SWF Clinical Care Network centers to improve communication, research initiatives and treatments for SWS patients. Dr. Loeb led the first SWF Clinical Care Network Conference on October 1-3, in New Orleans, LA. 17 of 23 centers were able to attend the conference.  Specialists in neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, and pathology presented valuable information and spent much of their time discussing processes for developing guidelines for professionals to follow when treating SWS patients as well as developing a process of tissue banking that can be utilized by all centers within the network.
